Penn History

This exhibit was created in 2005 by Mary D. McConaghy and by Michael T. Woods, University Archives Summer Research Fellow and an undergraduate at Penn State University, from research compiled by Cappy Gagnon and other members of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR).

Summary

The Penn Baseball team played two games this year winning the first but losing the second. The offense exploded in the first game for seventeen runs, but were silent in the second game, scoring only one run.

All nine of the players listed on this team were students in the College: five juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen. The 1884 yearbook and the Athletic Association history of Penn athletics published in 1913 both list the same individuals on this team.
