Conducting Research

Visiting the Archives

Preparing for a Visit

It is strongly recommended that researchers contact the staff for an appointment as selected archival collections are stored at an off-site facility and require a two day delivery lead time.

First-time researchers can request materials and schedule visits by creating a Research Account for Special Collections. Returning researchers can schedule an appointment by making requests with their research account. For additional assistance making a research account, making requests, or scheduling your visit, please email us at uarc@lists.upenn.edu

Before their visit researchers should consult:

  • Online finding aids to locate materials relevant to their research
(Note that three principle collections are used to provide genealogical information on alumni)
  • Protocols for the University Archives and Records Center to understand the policy on access to items and collections
  • Regulations on the use, quotation, and publishing of material to be prepared for procedures researchers must follow to safeguard collections
  • Service and Fee Schedule to understand what services are available, at the discretion of the staff.
