Men's Honors
Big 5 First Team:
- Eddie Jones (Temple)*
- Jerome Allen (Pennsylvania)
- Rick Brunson (Temple)
- Kerry Kittles (Villanova)
- Matt Maloney (Pennsylvania)
- Kareem Townes (La Salle)
* Jones became a first-round pick of the L.A. Lakers after averaging 19.2 points, 6.8 boards, 2.3 steals and 1.5 blocks for the nationally ranked Owls.
Eddie Jones has become one of the best NBA players to ever come out of the Philadelphia Big Five. He emerged quite rapidly. As a junior at Temple, he played second-fiddle to teammate Aaron McKie, who was the Player of the Year in both the Atlantic 10 Conference and the Big Five. But as a senior, with McKie still as a teammate, Jones had a superb season and claimed both Player of the Year Awards after averaging nearly 20 points a game as Temple went 23-8. Jones was then a first-round pick of the Los Angeles Lakers and played so well that he was mentioned as a Rookie of the Year candidate. He has since taken his All-Star game to Charlotte and now Miami.
