BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Charles Raymond Whittlesey was an economist, author and educator who specialized in monetary economics and monetary policy. He was received his B.A. from Philomath College, (1921), M.A. from American University of Beirut, (1924) and Ph.D., Princeton University (1928). He started his career as a member of the faculty at Princeton University (1925-1940), before joining the faculty of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (194-1967) where he would serve as the chairman of the Department of Finance (1945-1952, 1960-1963). Whittlesey was also an economist for Penn Mutual Insurance Co. (1941-1961).

Contents include his notes and exam taken as a Ph.D. student (1925-1926); syllabi, outlines, exams and lecture notes for courses he gave at Princeton U. (1938-1940) and U. of Pennsylvania (1963-1964); notes and memos recorded while a Fellow in Europe for Social Science Research Council (1935-1936); typescripts of memos, addresses and essays (1933-1974); rough drafts and unpublished manuscripts; a selction of publications; also includes correspondence relating to publications and professional consulting.
