BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Robert Hodgson Nones was born in 1864 in Wilmington, DE. Moving to Philadelphia with his family, he was educated in the public schools, and then graduated from the Philadelphia Dental College in 1885, where he later taught post-graduate coursesin prosthesis. In 1898 Nones was appointed dean of the dentistry department at Medico-Chiruchical College, and in 1900 he organized the dental department at Philadelphia General Hospital where he was head oral surgeon. He resigned from his posts in 1906 to return to private practice.

Additionally, Nones was a member of the Academy of Stomatology, the Naitonal Dental Association, and the American Medical Association. In 1903 he was president of the Pennsylvania State Dental Association.

Nones died at his home on December 28, 1936 of a heart attack.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The Robert Hodgson Nones Papers contain material from his tenure as dean of Medico-Chiruchical College’s dental department – principally an address to the 1903 graduating class, and list of professors and instructors. The collection also contains a few papers given by Nones at professional meetings, and his membership certificates.
