PROVENANCE

The Charles M. Hosmer Scrapbook was donated to the University Archives by Betty Hosmer Miller, the niece of Charles M. Hosmer in 1999 (Accession Number: 1999:70).

This scrapbook is in its original order.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Charles M. Hosmer was born on December 7, 1874 in Maryville, MO. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with an M.D. specializing in Ophthalmology in 1900. He then served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant from November 26, 1918 to April 12, 1919. He practiced Ophthalmology in San Diego, CA during the 1930’s and 1940’s. Hosmer died on June 21, 1954 at the age of 79.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

The Charles M. Hosmer Scrapbook consists of images of himself, his family, and his friends in Atlantic City, NJ, Maryville, MO, and Hopkins, MO. It contains images from the Spanish-American War as well. There are no images of the University in this scrapbook.
