BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Edward Goodfellow was born in Philadelphia on February 23, 1828. He attended the University of Pennsylvania from which he graduated with an A.B. in 1848 and an A.M. in 1851. After graduation Goodfellow began his career with the U. S. Coast and Geoditc Survey as a clerk. He would eventually move into fieldwork – including two expeditions to test cable longitude work, and the total solar eclipse in 1868. Goodfellow was elected a member of the American Philosophical Society, and a founding member of the Philosophical Society of Washington. He died in Washington, DC on May 7, 1899.

SCOPE AND CONTENT

The Edward Goodfellow Papers are a small collection of items related to his associtaion with the University and work with the Coast Survey. The Alumni material contains a list of University of Pennsylvania Alum living in Washington, D.C. in 1893. The collection does not contain any correspondence.
