BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Wallace Evan Davies was an historian, educator, and author. He attended Colgate University (1936, B.A.) and Harvard University (M.A. 1937, Ph.D 1946). Davies was a member of the University of Pennsylvania faculty from 1949 – 1976, serving as professor of American Social and Intellectual History. He was known primarily for his contributions in genealogical history and the hereditary patriotic societies. He was awarded an honorary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971.

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

Contains principally correspondence (1936-1976) and lectures and lecture notes of courses he taught as a teaching fellow and tutor at Harvard U. (1941-1945) and as a faculty member at Yale (1946-1949) and Pennsylvania (1949-1976); also includes copies of his publications; memorabilia from his childhood and undergraduate career; journals with daily entries kept during his graduate career (1938-1945).
